A trio of Massachusetts ultrarunners snagged last-minute Western States qualifiers at Rio Del Lago, Mark Leuner outlasted most of the field at a tough 100-miler in Texas, James Gawle defended his 24-hour title at the Hamsterwheel in New Hampshire, and Samantha LeBlanc threw down a tough 50-miler in Virginia at Mountain Masochist. Not every ultrarunner in Massachusetts took on the Ghost Train Rail Trail Ultras Oct. 21-22 in New Hampshire. The ninth annual Ghost Train Rail Trail Race Ultramarathons took place Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 21-22, at Camp Tevya in Brookline, N.H. Runners ran the ultra distance of their choice between 30, 45, 60, 75 and 100 miles during a 30-hour timeframe. Additionally, a 15-mile race was offered on Sunday.
