MassUltra Roundup: Mountain Lakes, Bighorn, Logan Peak, Tahoe, and Many on the Genny

A busy spring season came to a close during the June 17-19 weekend, and ultrarunners from New England took full advantage with races in the Northeast and across the country. In New York, Vermont’s Oliver Mednick and Connecticut’s Christian Dockum dueled for a solid 24 hours at the Mountain Lakes Backyard Ultra before a victor was determined. Meanwhile, out West in Wyoming, a trio of runners from the region completed one of the most grueling 100-milers at the muddy and mountainous Bighorn. Others took in races in Utah and California, as well as a second event in New York. Those races are featured in this edition of the roundup.

Kindness, Shared Miles Make Kenty’s Latest Victory at Chesterfield Gorge Memorable

No matter where she runs these days, it seems Jennifer Kenty can’t be stopped. She has run 100 miles or more four times so far in 2021 and 2022, as well as a 50K race, and all five have ended in victories.

Still, there’s one place where the running is particularly special to Kenty: the Chesterfield Gorge in West Chesterfield, Mass.

MassUltra Roundup: Drummer Hill, Ring the Springs, Lighthouse, Squaw Peak, and Shadow of the Giants

Big performances and grand adventures were had by New England ultrarunners during the June 11-12 racing weekend. That began with a trio of New England men who put on a thrilling race at the Drummer Hill 50K, continued with Boston resident Laura Ricci who shared a podium finish with her sister at the Lighthouse 50-miler in Michigan, and was capped by Denise Klatt of Brookline, Mass., who was victorious in the inaugural Ring the Springs 50-miler in Colorado. MassUltra Roundup: Worlds End, Old Dominion, Cayuga Trails, North Fork, Dam Yeti, and the Full Mo

June opened with a bang for New England ultrarunners as one of the busiest racing months of the year began with several big-time performances at races in the Northeast and across the country. That included Norton resident Padraig Mullins’ podium finish at the classic Old Dominion 100-miler in Virginia and Rhode Island resident Ben Quatromoni’s runner-up performance at the Cayuga Trails 50-miler in New York, as well as a major show of force by New Englanders at the grueling Worlds End 100K in Pennsylvania. Results: Chesterfield Gorge Ultra

The fourth edition of the Chesterfield Gorge 30-Hour Ultra and 25K races took place June 4-5 at the Chesterfield Gorge Reservation in West Chesterfield, Mass. Runners had 30 hours to complete ultra distances of 100 miles, 100K, 50 miles or 50K, or opt for a 25K race on Sunday on an out-and-back course through the gorge.

MassUltra Roundup: Cow Bone and Infinitus

The May ultramarathon racing calendar closed with a bang for four Massachusetts women as they made their collective presence felt at the Cow Bone Trail Run in Maryland. Additionally, the New England classic multi-day event – Infinitus – challenged runners with a new venue and equally difficult trails. Both events closed out May on a high note and are featured in this edition of the roundup.
