August came to a close with a jam-packed weekend of ultramarathon running in New England, most of it at official races. Runners took on challenging events in Maine, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. We have the first two–the Five Fields Farm 50K and Black Bear Trail Races 50K–included in this edition of the roundup, while results from the Ocean State Ultra were unavailable at the time of publication. But we lead off with a massive ultra effort at a self-styled event in Maine where Bradford Eslin ran 100 miles and raised more than $17,500 to help the homeless in his hometown.
