Registration Opens for TARC Summer Classic

After months of anticipation, registration for the TARC Summer Classic is officially open. The event will take place at 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, on the trails of Noon Hill Reservation in Medfield.

The Summer Classic will offer its traditional 40-mile and 50K ultramarathon distances on a 10-mile loop course that starts and finishes at Holt Pond. Cost for either distance is $35, and registration may be done via RunReg.

The 2022 race will be directed by Annette Florczak and Laura Ricci who are taking over for Michael Barrett.

This year marks the 11th edition of the event, which has been held every year since 2011 with the exception of 2020 when it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Summer Classic was one of the new races created by the Trail Animals Running Club for its inaugural TARC Trail Series in 2011. That year, under the direction of TARC founder and Medfield resident Chris Haley, the Summer Classic had a time-based format with 12- and 6-hour races. The format changed to distance-specific races starting in 2012, with 50-mile and 50K races from 2012-2014. In 2015, the format shifted slightly and took on the format runners know today with 40-mile and 50K races.
