MassUltra Roundup: April 10-12 Weekend

The April 10-12 weekend was hopping for ultramarathons in New England. A pair of events took place in Massachusetts – the Spring Fever 8-Hour in Hingham, and The Next Loop Endurance Challenge in Wrentham – both of which will be covered in separate recaps. Additionally, the region rejoiced with the return of the Runamuck 50K in Vermont following a two-year hiatus. The record-setting day at Runamuck leads off this edition of the roundup, but we also catch up on results for New Englanders at other races across the country, including in Virginia, Utah, California, Oregon and Illinois.

Runamuck 50K

After a two-year hiatus, the Runamuck 50K returned for its 10th edition on Saturday, April 11, in South Pomfret, Vt. – and what a return it was! Both the male and female course records fell and the all-time top-10 lists were rewritten as several runners clocked speedy performances.

The race started and finished at the Saskadena Six ski area. In between, it took runners on a winding course on 27 miles of hilly dirt roads and four miles of pavement, amassing around 3,700 feet of vertical gain along the way. Keith Nadeau hit the course harder than anyone. The 36-year-old from Rutland, Vt., raced to victory in 3:31:14 and clipped two minutes off of Remi Leroux’s previous male course record. Antoine Beland St-Onge, 31, of Shawingan, Quebec, was second in 3:36:03, with Andrew Macgibbon, 30, of Hartland, Vt., a few strides behind in 3:36:37 for third. Beland St-Onge and Macgibbon posted the fourth- and fifth-fastest times ever on the male leaderboard. Fourth- and fifth-place Trevor Bobola, 33, of Jamestown, R.I., and Aaron Newell, 33, of Woodstock, Vt., secured the ninth and 10th all-time performances with their 3:43:07 and 3:43:53 results.

In the female field, Lindsay Webster also rolled to a course record – and she did so by a big margin. Webster, 36, of Sutton, Quebec, placed seventh overall and first in the female field in 3:52:21. Webster became the first female to break the 4-hour mark at Runamuck, chopping nine minutes off Sarah Keyes’ previous record in the process. Runner-up Lexi Jackson, 37, of Goffstown, N.H., also had a speedy day. Her 4:08:13 performance was the fifth-fastest time by a female in event history. Clorice Reinhardt, 31, of Burlington, Vt., rounded out the podium in 4:27:27, followed by Victoria Andrews, 33, of Charlestown, Mass., in 4:34:09. Grace Woroch, 30, of Burlington, Vt., rounded out the top five in 4:41:01.

Sixty runners completed the race within 7 1/2 hours.

James River Trail Runs

Damien Weeks ran his first ultramarathon in November 2025, but the relative newcomer is getting the hang of things quickly. Weeks, 35, of Green Cove Springs, R.I., completed his second ultra at the fourth annual James River Trail Runs on Saturday, April 11, in Gladstone, Va. The event offered 50-mile and 50K ultras in addition to multiple sub-ultra distances, all on a 10-mile loop course on the trails of James River State Park. No New England residents were among the 42 finishers of the 50K, but Weeks ran the 50-miler – and he had himself quite the day. Of the 28 runners who finished the race within 16 hours, only one runner was faster than Weeks. Anderson Dibble, 27, of Yulee, Fla., topped the field in 9:07:44 and tallied the third-fastest time by a female in course history. Weeks finished second overall and first place in the male field in 9:28:29. His time earned the eighth-fastest mark on the male record board.

Calistoga Mountain Run

Llewellyn Jalbert lives in Vermont, but he is enjoying some West Coast ultramarathon racing this year. The 41-year-old resident of Montpelier completed the Marin Ultra Challenge 50-miler in March, and then returned to California for the ninth edition of the Calistoga Mountain Run on Sunday, April 12, in Calistoga. Formerly known as the Napa Valley Endurance Run, the 50K race punished runners with 7,600 feet of climbing, including a trip to the top of Mt. St. Helena.

Twenty runners finished within 12 hours, including Jalbert, who finished fifth overall in 7:43:19. John Groh, 34, and Michaela Kline, 33, both of Berkeley, Calif., topped the male and female fields and placed 1-4 overall in 6:02:51 and 7:18:01, respectively.

Lake Sonoma 100K and 50K

A pair of up-and-coming New Englanders turned in strong performances at the sixth edition of the Lake Sonoma 100K and 50K on Saturday, April 11, in Healdsburg, Calif., while taking on some top-tier competition.

In the 100K, 22-year-old Colin Cooper of Arlington, Mass., completed his longest distance to date. Fresh off of a top-five finish at the Moab Red Hot Ultra 55K in February, Cooper turned in a top-10 performance at the Lake Sonoma 100K. Of 96 finishers, Cooper placed 10th overall and seventh in the male field in 11:52:37. Ryan Sullivan, 35, of Grand Junction, Colo., and Fiona Pascall, 36, of Taunton, Great Britain, were the top male and female finishers and placed 1-2 overall in 8:36:09 and 10:13:24.

Meanwhile, another 218 runners completed the 50K race, including seven New Englanders. Among them, 21-year-old Jaime Yu of Lexington, Mass., made his ultra debut and delivered a strong showing, placing 26th overall in 5:23:51. Robbie Simpson, 34, of Callander, Great Britain, and Hannah Allgood, 34, of Colorado Springs, Colo., were the male and female winners in 3:39:39 and 4:19:36, respectively.

Zion Ultras

Several New England residents took part in the 15th edition of the Zion Ultras on April 11-12 in Apple Valley, Utah. The event offered 100-mile, 100K and 60K ultras on trails with scenic views of Zion National Park nearby.

The main event – the 100-mile race – had 171 finishers within 36 hours, including three New England residents. Nathan Nappi, 30, of Portland, Maine, finished 15th overall in 23:11:31. It was his first 100-miler ever, and will run another this year when he takes on the Javelina Jundred 100-miler in October in Arizona. A veteran of the distance, 46-year-old Amy Rusiecki of South Deerfield, Mass., finished 71st overall and 15th in the female field in 29:25:12. It was the first of at least two 100-milers on her calendar for the year. Rusiecki will head west again in September to run the Mountain Lakes 100 in Oregon. Jessica Dasilva, 45, of Durham, Conn., finished 113th in 32:21:38. She previously completed the event’s 100K race in 2024. Potawatomi Trail Runs

Three weeks after earning his first ultramarathon finish of the year at the Badwater Cape Fear 51.4-miler in North Carolina, Jason Ryan crossed another ultra finish line when he completed the 50K race at the Potawatomi Trail Runs. The race took place on Saturday, April 11, in Perkin, Ill., as part of a multi-distance endurance festival on the trails of McNaughton Park.
