After holding out hope for several months that the event could happen, Race Director Michael Barrett announced today on Facebook that the Trail Animals Running Club’s TARC Summer Classic was officially canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Summer Classic has been a staple in the TARC Race Series for years, and the 10th annual event was slated for Saturday, Aug. 8, at Noon Hill Reservation in Medfield. Both the 40-mile and 50K races sold out months ago for the popular event.
Since playing host to the TARCtic Frozen Yeti 30-Hour Ultra on Feb. 1-2 at Hale Reservation in Westwood, the Trail Animals have now canceled five races this year due to the pandemic. The next race in the TARC Race Series, the Fall Classic, is still scheduled to take place on Oct. 3. All distances (50-mile, 50K, half-marathon, 10K) are sold out.
