Tom Flummerfelt has been running trail ultramarathons for more than 20 years, including rugged mountain races all over the world such as the Tor des Geants 330K in Italy, the Moab 240 in Utah, and the Racing the Planet Iceland 250K. All of those adventures gave the 52-year-old plenty of experience to tap into when needed at the second annual 12-Hours of Lawrence Woods on Saturday, July 18, at the Middlesex Fells Reservation in Medford, Mass. But Flummerfelt had another asset he could tap into, and this one was possibly even greater: home trail advantage.

The second annual 12 Hours of Lawrence Woods took place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the Lawrence Woods section of the Middlesex Fells Reservation in Medford, Mass. Runners had 12 hours to complete as many 4.2-mile trail loops through the Lawrence Woods as they wanted, all for an entry fee of just $12.
