From Brian Rusiecki and Will Swenson throwing down top-10 finishes at UROC in Virginia, to Aaron Keene earning a Western States qualifier at Quicksilver in California, to the inaugural 100-miler in Maine, April 13-14 was a busy weekend for Massachusetts ultrarunners taking on out-of-state trails. In addition, we also tracked down results from a few races from the prior weekend, including the Big A 50K in Maine where Patrick Caron added another course record to his resume. A trio of Massachusetts ultrarunners added to their string of finishes at the Massanutten 100-miler in Virginia, Jenny Hoffman secured another victory at the Jack Bristol 50-miler, and local runners also took on the Miwok 100K in California, the Strolling Jim 40-miler in Tennessee, and the Spring Fling 600-minute run in Connecticut.

SOMERVILLE, Mass. – The Davis Square Runners played host to the second annual “Not the Worst Weekend” Fat Ass 8-Hour Run on Saturday, April 29, in Somerville, Mass.
More than two-dozen runners gathered in the front yard of club member Fernando Salcido’s house, which served as the start/finish and aid station for the event.

MILTON, Mass. – Every April since 1897, runners from around the globe have flocked to Massachusetts to take part in the iconic Boston Marathon. Now one of the world’s largest marathons and among the most recognized events in all of sports, Boston has captured the imagination, hopes and dreams of runners for 121 years.
While Boston may be the big show (27,221 runners started this year’s race), there’s another race in town that’s iconic in its own right, albeit on a much smaller scale and on a course that’s far more difficult to follow.
