Mid-September presented the busiest weekend of ultramarathon racing this year, with dozens of runners from Massachusetts and greater New England branching out beyond the Bay State to race throughout the country. This first of two roundups aims to recap results from the Sept. 10-12 weekend, with the top highlight coming from Cambridge resident Simon Guerard who successfully completed the Grand Slam of Ultrarunning with his finish at the Wasatch Front 100.

Trail Animals’ TARCkey Trot Set for Nov. 13 Return
Since its inaugural running in 2016, the Trail Animals Running Club’s TARCkey Trot 6-Hour Ultra has been a popular way for local trail- and ultrarunners to burn some pre-Thanksgiving calories. After four successful years, the 2020 edition was forced to be canceled due to the worsening COVID-19 pandemic.

The Berkshire Ultra Running Community for Service canceled its 2020 Notchview Ultra due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the event returned in a somewhat scaled-back format for 2021, with 48-hour, 24-hour and 12-hour ultramarathons Sept. 10-12 at Notchview Reservation in Windsor, Mass.
