The COVID-19 global pandemic has claimed another Massachusetts ultramarathon as a victim.
The Lynn Woods 50K had been scheduled to take place on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Lynn Woods Reservation, but it was officially canceled on Monday, Oct. 5. The announcement was made on the event’s Facebook page by William Jackson, the co-organizer of the event alongside Kristen Smith.
The Lynn Woods 50K is an unofficial race that has gone by multiple names through the years, including the Nougat 100K in its original format under prior organizers, and more recently as the WJKJ 50K. The event typically is self-supported, save for some fluids, and covers a 10-mile loop and a 5-mile loop on technical, rocky trails that runners complete twice.
DNFs were celebrated at the Nougat races, and that tradition remains the same at the Lynn Woods 50K. For 2020, the pandemic has ensured there will be no finishers.
“Hopefully back in 2021 if things get better. Stay safe,” Jackson wrote.
