When the global pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus began wiping out trail races and ultramarathons in March and April, the organizers of the Trail-Running Film Festival went to work revamping their traveling show for a virtual format. What started as a one-time event in May ultimately grew into a summer-long virtual film festival with a new lineup of films each month.
The final edition of this summer’s Virtual Trail-Running Film Festival takes place live at 8:30 p.m. EDT Saturday, Aug. 8. For those who can’t attend the virtual event, the purchase of a ticket will include access to stream the festival at any time through Aug. 16.
Each month’s lineup has had a theme, and the August theme is Epic films, including the world premiere of a 19-minute film documenting a fastest known time attempt on an alternate rim-to-rim-to-rim route by Jim Walmsley, Tim Freriks and Eric Senseman. The full lineup of films can be found here.
Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased on UltraSignup at this link.
When purchasing a ticket, additional donations may be made to support the festival’s August non-profit benefactor, Backcountry Medical Guides.
