The Mt. Toby Ultra is the latest Massachusetts ultramarathon to be canceled due to the coronavirus.
The event had been scheduled to take place on April 11 with 50K and 24K distances, but Race Director Amy Rusiecki canceled it as the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to take hold in Massachusetts and across the United States.
The cancellation was announced March 24 on the Beast Coast Trail Running Series Facebook page.
“In light of the COVID-19 outbreak we have cancelled the Mt. Toby race for April 11th, 2020,” Rusiecki wrote. “With the existence of another fall race scheduled at Mt. Toby we unfortunately cannot postpone. All registrants will be receiving an email with alternative options such as a partial refund or race choice for any upcoming Beast Coast Trail Series events (2020 + 2021).”
Six Massachusetts ultramarathons have now been canceled due to COVID-19, while a seventh – the Plymouth’s Long, Hard and Dirty Ultra – was postponed until October.
