The latest addition to the Berkshire Ultra Running Community for Service’s race lineup made its debut Saturday, Aug. 20, with the inaugural running of the Jug End Loop Ultra 6-hour event at Jug End State Reservation in Egremont, Mass.
A total of 30 runners recorded miles, including 12 who ran beyond the marathon distance – whether by just a few strides or quite a few miles.
Jason Mintz collected the most miles. The 36-year-old from Syracuse, N.Y., ran 41.52 miles within the six-hour time limit. Tim Goric, 30, of West Hartford, Conn., was second with 38 miles, and 34-year-old Jake Dissinger of Leeds, Mass., tallied the third-most miles with 35.56.
Two other runners – Bob Meyer and Tim Drake – both surpassed the 50-kilometer distance as Meyer, 51, of Oakland, N.J. tallied 33.8 miles, and Drake, 56, of Dalton, Mass., recorded 32.92 miles.
Ann Alessandrini, 56, of Johnsonville, N.Y., ran the most miles of any woman and the sixth-most of any runner for the day with 29.6 miles.
Other runners who ran beyond the 26.2-mile marathon distance were Alejandro Sarria, 34, of Williamstown, Mass., who logged 28.72 miles; Kenneth Wilson, 54, of Pittsfield, Mass., and Ana Wolf, 44, of Cummington Mass., with 27.84 miles apiece; and Thomas Cook, 15, of Adams, Mass., Ella Lombardi, 44, of Cedar Grove, N.J., and Sara Shuff, 43, of Pittsfield, Mass., who finished with 26.28 miles.
The other 19 runners recorded between 4.2 and 25.2 miles during the six-hour time limit.
The race used the approximately 4.15-mile Jug End Loop Trail for the first five hours, and then consolidated to an .88-mile mini loop for the final hour. Only completed loops were counted.
Jug End joins the Vegan Power 50K, the BURCS Summer Fat Ass 6-Hour Run, the Sweltering Summer 8-Hour Run, and the Free to Run Trail Races (50-miler, marathon, and half-marathon) in the BURCS Badass points series.
Free to Run, the final event of the season for the BURCS Badass points series, takes place Saturday, Sept. 17, at Pittsfield State Forest in Pittsfield, Mass. Registration can be done here.
