Beast Coast Trail Running Bringing New Ultra to Ashfield in June

Rumors have swirled for months that Amy Rusiecki had a new race in the works. On Thursday, March 21, the Beast Coast Trail Running leader made it official.

“Y’all, I am STOKED to officially announce a new race that Beast Coast Trail Running is launching this summer – the Edge Hill Trail Race,” Rusiecki wrote in an email to runners who’ve participated in prior Beast Coast events.

The Edge Hill Trail Race will take place Saturday, June 29, at the Edge Hill Conservation Area – formerly the Edge Hill Golf Course – in Ashfield, Mass. The event will offer a 50K ultramarathon starting at 7 a.m., as well as an 8K race starting at 8 a.m.

Both races will take place on singletrack trails and dirt roads on the former golf course property that is now maintained by the Franklin Land Trust. The property is gradually being converted into a grassland and shrubland habitat, and will eventually include a wetlands restoration effort. The race will use some of the trails that have been built out so far on the property.

“This event is in partnership with Franklin Land Trust, and will feature many of the trails and areas that they have worked hard to protect and conserve over the years, mainly focused in the Ashfield MA area,” Rusiecki wrote.

Edge Hill is the fifth ultramarathon event to be created by Rusiecki and Beast Coast Trail Running. The series opens with the Mt. Toby Ultra and 24K on April 6 in Sunderland, Mass. The second ultra in the series is the Chesterfield Gorge Ultra and 25K on June 1-2 in West Chesterfield, Mass. Edge Hill will be the third ultra of the year, followed by the Mt. Tom 50K on October 19 in Easthampton, Mass., and the Race for DFL Last Person Standing on November 9 in Winchendon, Mass.

The entry fee for the 50K is $65, and the 8K is $35. Registration for the race will take place on RunReg. Proceeds from Edge Hill will benefit the Franklin Land Trust.
