It was a slow start to lottery day for New Englanders hopeful of having their names selected on Saturday, Dec. 6, for spots in the 2026 Western States Endurance Run or Hardrock 100, but by the time the drawings were done several runners from the region secured spots in two of ultrarunning’s most exclusive events.

Results: 12 Hours of Lawrence Woods

The inaugural 12 Hours of Lawrence Woods took place on Saturday, July 19, 2025, in the Lawrence Woods section of the Middlesex Fells Reservation in Medford, Mass. Runners had 12 hours to complete as many 4.5-mile trail loops through the Lawrence Woods as they wanted, all for an entry fee of just $12.

McEnaney Raises $35,000+ for Suicide Prevention Through Western States Run

Patrick McEnaney wasn’t the fastest finisher at the Western States Endurance Run 100-miler on June 28-29, but his feat may have been the most impressive. On a weekend where some of the world’s best ultrarunners took on a 100-mile journey from Olympic Valley to Auburn, Calif., and some of the fastest times in its 49-year history were turned in, McEnaney accomplished a massive milestone that will benefit countless other people.

Lottery Luck Sends 7 New Englanders Into Hardrock 100 Starting Field

The Hardrock 100 Endurance Run lottery gods smiled on Denise Klatt a year ago, and she took full advantage of the opportunity by completing the rugged high-altitude ultramarathon on her first attempt. The lottery gods were once again good to Klatt – along with six other New Englanders – whose names were selected for the starting field of the 2025 race during the Hardrock lottery on Saturday, Dec. 7. Eight more were selected for the waitlist.

6 New Englanders Selected for Starting Field in Western States Lottery

The 2025 Western States Endurance Run isn’t until June 28, but the journey to the starting line of the 49th running of the historic 100-miler began Saturday, Dec. 7, for six New England residents whose names were drawn in the Western States lottery.

Joseph D’Alessio, Patrick McEnaney, Lance Doherty and Christopher Lay of Massachusetts, Austin Black of New Hampshire, and Yuichiro Hidaka of Rhode Island were among the lucky few selected for one of ultrarunning’s most exclusive events.

Maine’s Schide Dominates, Leads New England Contingent at Western States

Katie Schide lives in France and spends most of her time racing in Europe, but the 32-year-old native of Gardiner, Maine, returned to the U.S. for her debut performance at the 2023 Western States Endurance Run and made a major splash, breaking the long-standing course record and finishing second in the women’s race to world-class mountain runner Courtney Dauwalter.

This year, Schide returned to Western States as the women’s favorite at the 51st edition of the race on June 29-30, in Olympic Valley, Calif., and she made more history.

New Englanders Strike it Big in Western States, Hardrock Lotteries

The first Saturday of December always ranks among the most drama-filled days in North American ultrarunning thanks to the annual Western States Endurance Run and Hardrock 100-mile lotteries. Selection Saturday was worth the wait for several current and former New England ultrarunners this year as they came up big and were selected for two of the United States’ most hyped and high-profile events.
