Patrick Caron chalked up another strong ultramarathon performance on Sunday, May 8, at the G.A.C. Mother’s Day 6-Hour Run in Topsfield, Mass.

Caron, 19, of Needham, Mass., dominated the Goat Hill 50K on April 24 in Uxbridge, Mass., after placing second overall at TARC’s To Hale and Back 6-Hour race on March 26.

On Mother’s Day, however, Caron took his speed and endurance to another level as he logged 47 miles in six hours to take top honors at the race, which took place on a three-mile loop course.

Caron was pushed throughout the day by Sylvain Olier. Olier, 40, of Andover, Mass., finished with 45 miles and took second-place honors. It was Olier’s latest impressive ultramarathon performance this year, which includes third-place finishes at the Runamuck 50K in Windsor, Vt., and The Pistol Ultra Run 100-miler in Alcoa, Tenn.

William Jackson, 34, of Salem, Mass., finished third overall with 40 miles in six hours.

On the women’s side, competition at the top was tight with a three-woman battle. Kristen Smith, 32, of Danvers, Mass., took top honors with 37 miles, good for fourth overall and the women’s championship. Smith did just enough to hold off 2015 champion Deirdre Lowe, 36, of Salem, Mass. Lowe—who also was the top female at the 2015 TARC Summer Classic 50K and finished third overall at the Ghost Train 45-miler—ended the day with 36 miles. Laura Ricci, 32, of Boston, Mass., also finished with 36 miles. Ricci was the women’s champion at the TARC Summer Classic 40-miler in 2015 and third-place female at the Stone Cat 50-Miler.

A total of 118 runners participated in the event, and 19 ran farther than a marathon.
