MassUltra Roundup: Tunnel Hill, Rockledge Rumble, Red Rock Canyon, Pass Mountain, and Kessel Run

From the Race for DFL in Massachusetts, to the Bold Coast Bash in Maine and the Roxbury Marathon 50K in Connecticut, the Nov. 8-10 weekend was another hot one in New England – even with the cooler temperatures. We’ll have DFL covered and a separate story and Bold Coast and Roxbury will be featured in a second roundup, but here in Part I of this week’s roundup we catch up on New Englanders’ successes in the Midwest and the West. From Illinois to Texas, to Utah, Arizona and Colorado, New Englanders were active all over the place.

MassUltra Roundup: RutFest, Hamsterwheel, 8 Hours at the Farm, and Fall Back Into the Trails

The Nov. 1-3 weekend was another busy one for New England ultrarunners, well beyond the massive TARC Stone Cat Trail Festival here in Massachusetts. In Part I of this week’s roundup we caught up on the results of New Englanders who raced outside of the Northeast. Here in Part II, we catch up on events from the region, beginning in Vermont at the largest RutFest ever, and then head to New Hampshire for the Hamsterwheel, before dropping into Connecticut for 8 Hours at the Farm. We then finish up in New York at the Fall Back into the Trails Series.

MassUltra Roundup: Pinhoti, Rio Del Lago, Mountain Masochist, and Antelope Island

November opened with a flurry of ultramarathon activity, highlighted by the massive Stone Cat Trail Festival in Massachusetts, along with three more New England ultra: RutFest in Vermont, the Hamsterwheel in New Hampshire, and 8 Hours at the Farm in Connecticut. Stone Cat will be featured in a separate recap, and the other New England races will have their own separate roundup, but here in this edition we catch up on ultras outside of the Northeast. New Englanders collected hard-earned finishes at the Pinhoti 100 in Alabama, the Rio Del Lago 100 in California, the Mountain Masochist 50-miler in Virginia and the Antelope Island 50K in Utah. We have them all covered in this edition of the roundup.

MassUltra Roundup: Javelina, Canyonlands, Rim to River, and Bimbler’s Bluff

A week after the largest ultrarunning Halloween party in New England was held at the Ghost Train Trail race in New Hampshire, the biggest bash in the West took place in Arizona at the Javelina Jundred during the Oct. 25-27 weekend. Several New Englanders ran 100 miles or 100K at that event, while others traveled to the Canyonlands Ultra in Utah and the Rim to River 100 in West Virginia. In addition to those ultras outside the Bay State, we also look back to the previous weekend and catch up on the results from the 16th annual Bimbler’s Bluff 50K in Connecticut in this edition of the roundup.

MassUltra Roundup: Moab 240, Patapsco Valley, Call of the Wilds, Tecumseh Trail Challenge, California Fall Classic, and the New Orleans Ultramarathon

Around 700 runners – mostly New Englanders – gathered in southern New Hampshire during the Oct. 19-20 weekend for the 15th edition of the Ghost Train Trail Race 30-hour ultra, 30-mile night race, 15-mile race and team relay. It seems hard to believe, but there were still several New Englanders who sought out ultra adventures in other places across the United States. They raced at the Patapsco Valley 50K in Maryland, the Call of the Wilds 50K in Pennsylvania, the Tecumseh Trail Challenge in Indiana, the California Fall Classic, and the New Orleans Ultramarathon. New Englanders also toed the starting line at the Pumpkin Holler Hunnerd in Oklahoma, the Palo Duro Trail Run in Texas, the Man Against Horse 50-Miler in Arizona, and BadgerPalooza in New Jersey, though results from those races were unavailable at the time of publication. We’ll highlight several of last weekend’s events in this edition of the roundup, but we lead off with a race from the previous week where Massachusetts resident Tom Flummerfelt earned a top-20 finish at the grueling Moab 240-miler in Utah.

MassUltra Roundup: Angel’s Rest, Des Plaines, Sage Burner, Canyon de Chelly, and Cactus to Cloud

After kicking off this week’s roundup with a look at Northeast races from the Oct. 11-13 weekend, here in Part II we look to the Midwest and West where New Englanders raced in Oregon, Illinois, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico. Included among those efforts were a podium finish for Maine’s Eli Nixon at the Angel’s Rest 50K, and a fourth-place showing for Boston’s Aadi Khasgiwala at the Des Plaines River Trail 50K to lead off Part II of this week’s roundup.

MassUltra Roundup: Big Brad, Devil’s Den, and Tesla Hertz

The ever-popular Ghost Train Rail Trail Race looms next weekend, and the Midstate Massive Ultra-Trail saw a huge field of runners during the Oct. 11-13 weekend in New England. Still, that didn’t mean it was a light weekend of ultramarathon racing at other venues for runners from the region. In fact, the scene was hot in the Northeast, with runners racing in at the Big Brad Ultras in Maine and Devil’s Den in Vermont, as well as at the Tesla Hertz Ultras on Long Island in New York. We have those events covered here in Part I of this week’s roundup. In Part II, we’ll head to the Midwest and West.

MassUltra Roundup: Vermont 50, Farm to Farm, Tunxis, and Parallel of Latitude

New Englanders had an abundance of nearby ultramarathon options to close out September, and they took full advantage. In addition to the massive field that turned out for the MetroWest Backyard Ultra in Needham, Mass. (separate recap article), hundreds more raced in Vermont at a New England classic – the Vermont 50, as well as in Maine at the Farm to Farm Ultra, in Connecticut at the Tunxis Trail Ultra, and in nearby New York at the brand new Parallel of Latitude 8-Hour Ultra.
