Fegyveresi is Lone New England Resident Selected in Hardrock Lottery

Twenty-four Massachusetts residents threw their names in the hat for the 2019 Hardrock 100 lottery, but the Bay State was shut out of the drawing on Saturday, Dec. 1. In fact, only one New England resident was among the 140 runners selected for the race.

John Fegyveresi of Quechee, Vt., a regular presence on the ultrarunning scene in Massachusetts, was selected for Hardrock for the second year in a row. Fegyveresi, who finished the 2018 race in 39:59:16, spent lottery day racing the TARC Fells Winter Ultra at the Middlesex Fells Reservation in Stoneham, Mass. He was in his final loop of the 32-mile race when his name was drawn.

A few other familiar faces will also take another crack at Hardrock. Former Winchester, Mass., resident David Huss, now living in Seattle, Wash., was selected for the second time. Additionally, eight-time Hardrock finisher Jeff List, a former resident of East Falmouth, Mass., who now lives in Anacortes, Wash., will toe the starting line in Silverton, Colo., for the ninth time on July 19.

Andy Jones-Wilkins, a native of Hyannis, Mass., who currently resides in Staunton, Va., is also among those whose names were selected in the lottery. Jones-Wilkins has two Hardrock finishes to his credit so far (2009 and 2016).

Another notable name selected was Leo Fung. A resident of Calgary, Alberta, Fung finished fourth at the 2016 TARC 100 and turned heads during that race by taking a plunge into the lake at the end of each loop of the course at Hale Reservation.
